Hello, I am Lee Ji-seung, Medical Director of Medical Bloom Korean Medicine Clinic · COEX. I am often asked, "Can I get a skin booster if I have acne-prone skin?" We use PN Rebuilder T for breakout-prone skin, and when it is used matters as much as what is used. Today I will explain what kind of skin PN Rebuilder T is used for and when it is added during breakout treatment.

What Is PN (Polynucleotide)?

PN is an ingredient made by purifying the fragments that make up DNA. Most PN used in aesthetics is obtained from fish such as salmon and trout, which is why it is also nicknamed "salmon injections."

PN is known to support an environment in which damaged tissue can recover (results vary from person to person). Its purpose differs from that of hyaluronic acid skin boosters, which fill the skin with moisture. Rather than adding moisture, it is closer to building a foundation from which tired skin can recover on its own.

When T Is Chosen Among R, T and H

PN Rebuilder is divided into three lines, R, T and H, according to purpose. I consider T for the following types of skin.

  • Skin that breaks out often and has become sensitive — Skin that turns red easily even with minor irritation after repeated breakouts.
  • Skin that has become thin with lingering redness after inflammation has calmed down — New acne has decreased, but the skin has not yet recovered.
  • When planned together with breakout treatments such as Gold PTT or POTENZA — Inflammation treatment and recovery treatment are planned as one flow.

The differences between the three lines are covered in detail in a separate post comparing PN Rebuilder R, T and H.

When PN Is Used for Breakout-Prone Skin

  • When inflammation is at its peak — A period with many red, painful pimples. Inflammation is treated first, and PN is considered area by area.
  • When inflammation is calming down — A period when new acne decreases but redness remains. This is the main period for PN Rebuilder T.
  • Recovery period — A period when marks and skin texture are the concern. It may be planned together with other treatments such as POTENZA.

For breakout-prone skin, the order of treatments that control inflammation and treatments that help the skin recover is important. If recovery treatment is rushed while inflammation is still severe, it is hard to notice the change you expect. I decide when to add PN by looking at how much acne remains and how much redness and marking there is.

Treatment Process and Recovery

  • Consultation and skin check — We first look at the stage of acne, skin thickness and how sensitive the skin is.
  • Day of treatment — Small bumps or redness may appear where the injections were given.
  • Days 1–3 — The bumps usually settle, and some people may bruise (results vary from person to person).

For a few days after treatment, avoid rubbing the injected areas hard, and avoid saunas or strenuous exercise. Detailed aftercare instructions are given separately on the day of treatment.
